We are happy to announce that our very special Bead It Babe, CJ, welcomed baby Joe into the world early Wednesday morning! Mommy and baby are doing well and are expected home today. Congratulations!

In other bead news, our Surf City location will be taking a little Winter's Nap while the very popular Karen relocates to our North Beach Haven shop to lend a hand while CJ and baby Joe get comfy. She is joining Stacey, Nikki and Karla, who will also be holding in down on the beading front and working on some fun new Valentine's Day and SPRING designs. That's right, we said SPRING!! We are almost half way to summer, so there is no better time to start thinking warmer weather, longer days, and fun times with our growing JBI family!

North Beach Haven is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday 10ish-5ish and Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 10ish-2ish.

As you all know, Hurricane Irene decided to pay a visit to the East Coast this past weekend. Our stores along the Jersey Shore as well as our employees' homes and other businesses were lucky enough to not have any major damage. However, our store in Wilmington, VT along with many other businesses and homes were hit hard. Many do not have electricity or water still. There is also major flooding and numerous roads that are closed due to damage. Unfortunately, our store in Wilmington will be closed until further notice. We wish everyone in Vermont the best and they will be in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Prom Closet & LBI Fest

Just Bead It is teaming up with Red Sails Salon, Regenerate, and Kapler's Pharmacy in collecting prom dresses (semi or formal dresses), shoes, purses, and handbags for Southern Regional High School for their "Prom Closet." This is a service set up within the school where girls can borrow whatever they need for their prom, and return it after that evening. So during your Spring cleaning, check your closets for anything you can donate to this great cause and help these girls have a prom they will never forget! Best Seat in Vermont!

Just Bead It is entered in the "Best Seat in Vermont", which is a contest that features wooden adirondack loveseats and children's adirondacks designed and painted by patrons of the arts, the Chamber, local businesses, organizations, and families. On October 9, the adirondacks will be auctioned off at The Grand Summit Resort and Conference Center at Mount Snow. Proceeds from the event will benefit Deerfield Valley Community Cares, The Deerfield Valley Food Pantry, "Make-a-Wish" of Vermont and the Guy Hawkins Fund, local school arts programs, and future valley wide events and marketing. The Lighthouse International Film Festival on LBI

The Lighthouse International Film Festival will be held on Long Beach Island from June 4 - June 7. It is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to showcasing new and innovative films and fostering the next generation of filmmakers. The festival offers four days of films, panels, Q&A's, networking, parties and surfing, and draws some of the industry's top film critics, producers and distributors. The festival also seeks to serve the community by presenting unique programs that inspire, engage and challenge a diverse audience through the art of film.

Big news! Just Bead It is in the process of opening a new store in Wilimington, Vermont! We are all very excited and already started the process of collecting inventory from our stores in LBI and Stone Harbor.

We are hoping to be up and running within a couple months. The store will be open all year round, so if you are coming home from a day at the slopes or looking for something fun to do during the "off-season", stop on by and create your own unique jewelry!

We want to thank all the volunteers who came out on April 25 for LBI Business Alliance's 1st Annual Green Up Clean Up (GUCU). The event was a great success, not only in picking up the trash around the island, but also in creating awareness to the environmental issues facing the island. We picked up over a ton of trash, and we can’t tell you how many cigarette butts were in there!

We also want to thank some people for their involvement: Tim from Timster for volunteering his time and services in picking up all of our trash bags and taking them to the landfill, Rick from Typestries for creating and printing all of the re-usable signs for the event, John from Nardi’s for purchasing the full-page add in the Sandpaper, Dark Star Café for the lunches, Andrea from Active Imprints for her design on the back of the t-shirts, Coastal Printing for the posters, Mr. Milton for his generous donation, Long Beach Township for hosting the beach bonfire, and the Beach Haven Fire Department for keeping us safe at the bonfire, Surflight Theatre for donating trash bags and gloves, all of the Municipalities on the Island for also donating trash bags and gloves, and Christine for helping with all of the deliveries to our crab traps.

Much thanks to the JBI girls: Tanya, Andi, Gabby, Brittany, Rebecca, Karen, Kerri, Ashley, and Cassie for tie-dying 300 awesome t-shirts and making 600 bracelets!

Tie-Dying at Just Bead It for GUCU!

This week the girls at Just Bead It were busy tie dying GUCU t-shirts for Saturday. Volunteers who pre-registered for the event would be receiving these Free Limited Edition t-shirts in celebration of LBI BA's 1st Annual GUCU.

Step 1: Rubber band t-shirts...all 300 of them! Actually went pretty fast. We had fun figuring out different ways to rubber band them to make different tie dying effects.

Step 2: Dying the t-shirts in Green and Blue dye. We made sure to wear gloves so our hands didn't get dyed...except for Stacey...she went for the "green look" and proud of it!

Step 3: Let t-shirts soak in the dye overnight. We ended up dying half the t-shirts on Tuesday and the other half on Wednesday because we were running out of room!

Step 4: Rinse out t-shirts and take home to dry.

This way our volunteers don't turn green or blue on Saturday!

A GUCU Bonfire will be held on Saturday, April 25 from 8pm til 9:30pm at the Long Beach Township Municipal beach at 68th Street in Brant Beach as a "Thank You" to all of the GUCU volunteers for all of their hard work!

Green Up Clean Up (GUCU) Update

LBI Business Alliance's First Annual Green Up Clean Up (GUCU) is approaching fast! Only 3 weeks away, we are busy preparing for this great "green" event!

The girls at Just Bead It are hard at work beading "GUCU" bracelets for all the volunteers to wear. These bracelets will entitle them for promotions/discounts at participating LBI businesses! Just Bead It will be giving away FREE Pair of Earrings!

Volunteers also have the chance to win 1 of 100 Free lunches at Dark Star Cafe and the first 100 individuals to pre-register for GUCU will receive a Free Limited Edition "1st Annual GUCU" t-shirt, hand tie-dyed by Just Bead It (we will be posting photos soon!).

April FREE Workshops

On Thursday, April 2 at 1pm, we will be teaching how to design and handcraft a Beaded Necklace for your spring and summer attire by using seed and tube beads along with a howlite pendant. You will also learn how to finish the necklace with a technique called crimping. Great for beginners!

On Thursday, April 16 at 1pm, we will be teaching you how to handcraft a Howlite Pendant Necklace. You will learn how to wire-wrap a bead on a head pin so it can be worn as a pendant on cording. A great introduction into wire-wrapping.

March FREE Workshops

On Thursday, March 5 at 1pm, we will be teaching how to handcraft a Beaded Cross with the right angle weave technique, czech glass beads, and illusion cord. This is a workshop for intermediate to advanced beaders. After taking this free workshop, you will be able to take our more advanced right angle weave classes: Swarovski Purse and Swarovski Heart!

On Thursday, March 19 at 1pm, we will be teaching how to design and handcraft a Beaded Rosary with druk beads and seed beads. You will learn the correct rosary pattern and how to properly attach the beads to the pieta. This is a great class to practice your beading and crimping skills!

Chocolate Week: Free Wire Working Workshop

On Thursday, Feb. 10, Just Bead It had its first Chocolate Week event: Free Wire Working Workshop. It was a great turn out with ladies of all ages eager to learn wire working.

As they learned about the different tools and supplies, they enjoyed a cup of hot cocoa and homemade chocolate chip cookies.

During the workshop, they learned how to make wrapped loops and practiced a couple times on plated wire before they began designing their earrings. They chose from an assortment of glass heart beads and size 6/0 beads, and quickly put their new wire working skills to the test.

They were excited to wear their new pair of earrings and some even planned to give them as gifts. Afterwards, they decided to do some shopping to pick up supplies for their new hobby with a 20% discount!

All of the ladies enjoyed themselves and some signed up for our next Free Workshop on Thursday, Feb, 19 (Beaded Purse).

Free Instruction Workshops

Looking for a new hobby to help you get through the long winter months? We are having FREE Instruction Workshops each month in its North Beach Haven location. Our monthly free workshops is a fantastic way to avoid the winter doldrums and meet new people.

Our first workshop was Wire Working and it was a big hit. The ladies learned a new beading technique and had a great time. They returned home with a finished pair of earrings and a bag full of beads!

January's Free Workshop is "The Basics." This is a perfect workshop for someone who is interested in beading, but doesn't know how to start. You will also receive a 20% discount on your purchase.

Welcome to Just Bead It's very first Bead Blog! We are so excited to finally join the blogging community and spread the word about our great Bead Stores on the Jersey Shore!

To give a little background, Just Bead It opened in 1992 in Surf City, on Long Beach Island New Jersey. Now starting its 16th year, JBI has gained an awesome crowd of loyal customers, community, and friends and family. Our Surf City and North Beach Haven stores are open all-year round and our Stone Harbor store is open long weekends during the off-season.
